5/9, Peoria 6, Cougars 15

Chris Affinito hit two, three run homers in the Cougars 15-6 win over the Peoria Chiefs in the final game of the series. Tyreace House and Nino Leyja both had two hits.

Rob Gilliam started for the Cougars and was good today. He went six innings, giving up five hits and one run. He walked four and struck out four in his 90 pitch outing. The bullpen wasnt bad either. Hector Garcia pitched two innings of one hit ball, giving up two walks and one strikeout. Max Peterson cam in for the final out. Jose Guzman had some trouble, he was only able to get two outs in the eighth, giving up two hits and five runs. Only three of them were earned, he walked three and struck out two.

Offense really wasn't a problem for the Cougars today as they would score 15 runs on 13 hits. The got ahead in the first inning of off Chiefs starter Su-Min Jung, who was 4-0, with a sub 1 era entering the game. In the first inning Connor Crumbliss led off with a walk. House then singled up the middle. Two outs later, Leyja walked to load the bases. Max Stassi would follow with a single to left to score Crumbliss. Mike Gilmartin struck out to strand the bases loaded.

The Chiefs would tie the game in the fourth inning off of Gilliam. With one out, Greg Roahn walked, Justin Bour then singled up the middle. One out later, Richard Jones singled to right center to score Rohan. After that Jose Valdez would walk to load the bases with two outs. Gilliam would get Francisco Guzman on strikes to get out of trouble.

In the bottom half of the inning the Cougars would put a five spot on the board. Leyja led it off with a single up the middle. Max Stassi was then hit by a pitch. Gilmartin tried to bunt them over but popped up a bunt for the first out. Franklin Hernandez would single to right to score Leyja. Chris Affinito then hit a three run homer to right center. Crumbliss followed with a double down the right field line. House would bloop one to center. Anthony Aliotti hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Crumbliss.

Peoria had a couple of more chances before they would break through in the ninth for five runs. In the sixth inning, Rohan and Bour led off the innings with singles. Gilliam would then get two strike outs and a fly out. In the seventh inning, Guzman led off with a bunt single, and Hak-Ju Lee walked. After that a strike out, a ground out and a line out ended the inning.

The Cougars would get two more runs in the fifth inning. Leyja led off with a single to rigth center. Stassi would reach on a fielding error by the third baseman. On the play it should've been a force out at second on Leyja, but the third baseman threw the ball into right field, Leyja made it to third and Stassi went to second. Gilmartin followed with a sacrifice fly to left to score Leyja. One out later, Affinito and Crumbliss walked to load the bases. House would then single to left to score Stassi, Affinito would be out at the plate.

In the eighth inning the Cougars sealed the game, or so they thought. The would get seven runs, on three hits. Crumbliss led it off with a walk against Steven Grife. House then was hit by a pitch and Alliotti walked to load the bases. The Chiefs then brought in Jordan Latham to pitch. Leonardo Gil reached on an error by the shortstop. On the play the ball simpley went through his legs, Crumbliss would score and the bases remained loaded. One out later, Stassi doubled ot right to score both House and Aliotti. Gilmartin followed with a single to right to score Gil. One more out later, Affinito hit a three run homer to left.

Jose Guzman came in for the ninth inning and tried to pull a Hector Almonte on the fans. With one out, Guzman singled up the middle One more out later, Logan Watkins walked. Matt Cerda then doubled to right to score both Guzman and Watkins. Rohan would walk. Bour reached on a droped third strike, wild pitch to load the bases. Jonathan Mota then walked to force in Cerda. Jones would reach on an error by the first baseman Aliotti. Rohan and Bour would score, with Jones getting to third. After that Max Peterson came in to relieve Guzman and got a grounder to end the game.
